Best time to visit Edmonton

Edmonton is the northernmost city of North America, so it gets really chilly in winter but also experiences a pleasant, warm summer season. The best time to visit this city would be in summer and autumn, when you can catch some of the exciting festivals that take place over this time. The temperatures over this time (May to September) range from 12°C to 23°C. For a great Canadian experience though, visit between the colder months of November to March. It gets cold (-3°C!), but you will be able to experience some fun winter activities such as skiing, dog sledding and much more.

As with many big cities, petty theft and begging is sometimes a problem in Edmonton. The city is relatively safe though, and as always, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and keep your valuables out of sight. The neighbourhoods of Colosseum, Abbotsfield and Millwood have a slightly bad reputation and should be avoided, especially when you are alone or at night.

It is always important to have your vaccines up to date when you are travelling. When visiting Edmonton, it is recommended to get a vaccination for hepatitis A if you think you’ll be eating any exotic food and then also a shot for rabies if you plan to spend some time doing adventurous activities.
